Memorial Day Weekend in Destin, Florida – Honoring Heroes, Festive Events & Beach Time

With the Memorial Day weekend upon us, we’re delighted to welcome many traveling families to the beaches of South Walton and Destin, Florida. While we know you’ll want to spend lots of time soaking in the sun and enjoying the area’s pristine beaches, there are some great local events to honor our military heroes and enjoy live music and fun. Here are the highlights:

Memorial Day Ceremony in Santa Rosa Beach (Monday, May 31)

The historic Gulf Cemetery will host its annual Memorial Day Ceremony at 10 a.m. The 106-year-old cemetery is located at 1466 S County Highway 393 in Santa Rosa Beach. Approximately 150 veterans are interred in the cemetery and will be honored in a service that will include a keynote speech by Retired Air Force General, Philip Breedlove. Attendees are encouraged to bring umbrellas and/or personal lawn chairs. This ceremony is a wonderful opportunity for the entire family to join in a dignified, respectful, and patriotic tribute to the men and women who served our country in the Armed Forces and paid the ultimate sacrifice for freedom. Veterans Tribute Tower Committee (Monday, May 31)

The City of Fort Walton Beach is proud to partner with the Veterans Tribute Tower Committee again this year to host the Memorial Day Ceremony at Beal Memorial Cemetery at 9am. The guest speaker is 7th Special Forces Group Commander, Colonel John Sannes. He will be joined by special guests, Brigadier General Scott Cain, Colonel Jocelyn Schermerhorn, Reverend Cecil Williams, Dr. Dave Goetsch and Lt Colonel Frank Roberts. Guests will be invited to place small bouquets in the Community Wreath during the reading of the names of Veterans who have passed since last Memorial Day. Memorial Day Concert Celebration at HarborWalk Village (Sat., May 29- Mon., May 31)

Celebrate Memorial Day on the Harbor with Live Music, Fireworks & a Silent Disco Party at HarborWalk Village.
Saturday, May 29th: 7:00pm Flash Flood
Sunday, May 30th: 7:00pm Cadillac Willie; 9:00pm Fireworks
Monday, May 31st: 7:00pm Silent Disco Party - DJ Chubby & DJ D Funk

This fun outdoor, open-air venue allows guests to follow CDC guidelines in regards to mask-wearing and social distancing while still enjoying the ambiance of the Destin Harbor. Come for the live music and stay for the fireworks and fanfare. Harbor restaurants will be offering specials as well as additional entertainment and live performances.
